To secure the reliable defense of Free Press in Armenia, a fund for the assistance of Free Speech was created in Armenia. The aim of the Fund is the defense of the few remaining independent mass media in Armenia. The executive director of the Fund is prominent defenseman of Human Rights in Armenia, ex-political prisoner Vartan Harutyunian. The president of the Board of Trustees is Vassak Darpinian (Editor-in-Chief of "Taregir" Daily Internet newspaper), the members are Mesrop Movsessian (president of banned "A1+" Independent TV), Aram Abrahamian (Editor-in-Chief of "Aravot" Daily newspaper), Nikol Pashinian (Editor-in-Chief of "Haykakan Zhamanak" Daily newspaper, prominent lawyer Tigran Ter-Yessayan, Edik Baghdassarian (president of the "Association of Investigative Journalists"), Narine Mkrtchian (president of the "National Press Club," and former political prisoner Azat Arshakian.
